Help with
Dora the Explorer
Dora is an adventurous, bilingual, Latina heroine who lives in a house with her Mamá and Papi. Determined, positive, helpful and caring, Dora is always ready for adventure. She's filled with a sense of wonder as she explores her world with her faithful Backpack, Map and her best friend Boots.Dora the Explorer teaches children basic Spanish words and phrases along with maths and music skills and physical coordination. Children also learn with Dora how to observe situations and solve problems.
In each episode of Dora the Explorer, Dora solves a problem based on specific words and phrases in conversational Spanish, which pre-schoolers learn as they solve the problem with her. These words and phrases include a variety of basic nouns, adjectives, and commands, such as "azul" for "blue", and "cuidado", which means "watch out".
What does "lo hicimos" mean from the song Dora and Boots sing at the end of the show? "Lo hicimos!" is the Spanish phrase meaning "we did it!" What does "vámonos!" mean? It means "Let's go" and is a common idiomatic phrase in Spanish. Dora is bilingual and she demonstrates that speaking Spanish is not only a valuable tool, but also a source of pride. Together you and your child can learn some basic Spanish! Where does Dora live on the show? Dora lives in a house with her Mamá and Papi, though she also often visits her Abuela (grandmother).

Dora's best friend Boots is a furry, fuzzy, five-and-a-half-year-old monkey who speaks english. He is sweet and caring and loves to hold Dora's hand, following her while they explore. He also loves to make Dora laugh by surprising her. Whenever Boots is feeling down he manages to bounce back with his special triple flips. |

Map is a funny, bouncy rolled-up friend living in Backpack's side pocket. He is an incredibly useful helper because he always knows where to go and the best way to get there. "If there's a place you need to get, I can get you there I bet," Map is always singing. |

Swiper is a quick, sneaky fox who tries to swipe things that Dora needs to complete her quests. When Swiper has swiped something he then hides it and it's up to Dora, Boots and the viewer to find where it is hidden. Swiper speaks in English and can be stopped by calling out "Swiper, no swiping". |

Meet Dora's cousin, Diego! He's a great partner to Dora in her adventures. He helps his parents at the Animal Rescue Centre and can even make animal noises and talk to the wild animals. You can count on Diego to run, swing and jump to the rescue of any animals in trouble. |
Every adventure has an objective, and Dora with her best friend, a monkey named Boots, face many obstacles they must overcome. When they finally do make it to their destination, kids know that Dora could not have made it without them!
